- Capioera, second only to football as a popular sport in Brazil was the slaves way of resisting. Today there is still some slavery of indigenous Indians in the Amazon
- The government lead by President Lula has introduced national campaigns to raise public awareness of the MDGs, as well as introducing programmes to tackle poverty, hunger and helping all children to go to school
- The government lead by President Lula won a second term of office in October 2006
- Brazil is on target to achieve the MDGs and has the resources to do so
