Millennium Development Goal 3
![]() |
Target 4 Eliminate gender disparity in primary and secondary education, preferably by 2005, and to all levels of education no later than 2015.
Many women and girls in developing countries are discriminated against. It is often harder for girls to go to school – 60 million girls, compared to 45 million boys are still not enrolled in school – let alone secure their futures through the prospect of a good job.
The issue of gender equality (women having the same rights as men) is very important. Progress towards achieving gender equality and the empowerment of women must be made in order to achieve all eight of the Millennium Development Goals.
