The rate of children not enrolled in primary education was reduced to under 10%. While general literacy rate rose from 84% to 89% between 1994 and 2000 

The child mortality rate and maternal mortality rate were among the lowest in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region 
Action was being taken on environmental issues - Since 2000 the increased Israeli occupation has reversed all the progress towards the MDGs from 1994
- Palestine shows the need for peace and political stability, to achieve the MDGs
- Future progress depends on the parties involved reaching a peace agreement. These are inside Palestine, Hamas and Fatah who recently formed a government of national unity together with Israel and the Quartet*
* The Quartet of negotiators is made up of The EU, The UN, The US and Russia
