'Angry Mob' - new War Child online resource for young people   concerned about conflict

War Child is a UN award winning charity that works directly with children in areas affected by conflict. A poll conducted by War Child in partnership with young people’s social networking site Habbo has revealed the extent of young people’s concern about global conflict and its consequences. Of the 32,000 young social networkers who responded, 81% said they were worried about global conflict and 47% said they felt they could personally do something to help raise awareness of the issues. When asked how they would go about it, 53% said they would do this through social networking.

In response to the findings and young people’s concerns, War Child has launched a new, DFID funded, online resource and social networking site designed with and for young people. Named ‘Angry Mob’ www.angrymob.org.uk to reflect their feelings of outrage at global conflict, the site is packed with content for teachers and students alike and provides an effective tool for discussion around the complex issues of war. In addition the site also offers students ways of taking positive action through blogging, video uploads, quizzes and opportunity to comment on current news.

In addition to this resource, War Child have developed Citizenship Teaching Materials for Key Stage 4 students including detailed lesson plans designed to explore the issues. All of the resources are free to download at www.warchild.org.uk/schools and teachers can also request a free CD ROM with all the resources on it, along with free posters and postcards.
